06 Low Ported Mullen Barrel

The 06 is a non-collapsing bit ideal for a young-minded horse who takes longer to bring back and refocus after a spook.

The port gives some tongue room, but will rotate onto the tongue if the rider applies stronger rein pressure.  The 06 is effectively a non-collapsing version of the 04 Low Port Comfort Snaffle, but the 06 rotates onto the tongue slightly quicker than the 04, which has to collapse before it can rotate.

 As the 06 does not collapse, the port does not reduce in width, and there is no wrapping of the outer lips & bars, so there is more direct pressure backwards from the rider’s hands.

 Some horses just react better to a solid-action, non-collapsing bit.  This may be due to issues like very fleshy lips, which can get pinched between a collapsing bit, or a horse being unsettled by a bit with a lot of movement, but sometimes there is no obvious reason, so if you think you have a bitting problem, you need to listen to what your horse is trying to tell you about his bit.

The 06 has Independent Side Movement, for a clearer lateral aid.

Plain Eggbutt Cheek

The cheek rings of the plain eggbutt can slide through the cheek pieces of the bridle, letting the port rotate forwards & down to create some tongue room, whilst the mouthpiece either side of the port will lie on the tongue.

 Because the reins are not anchored, they will slide up around the cheek rings in line with the rider's angle of pull.  This means that there is less downward rotation of the mouthpiece than with Hanging Cheek; but more than with the Loose Ring.

The benefits of the Independent Side Movement will be affected in the same way, with the effectiveness between that obtained with the Hanging Cheek and that obtained with the Loose Ring.
